I wanted to take a minute to let you know about the most recent issue of choice, about The Power of Choice, is out. There’s a bit of irony I can’t ignore. After 24 years of publishing choice, we’ve finally dedicated an entire issue to the very idea behind our name: the power of choice itself.
It feels overdue. And at the same time, exactly right.
I’m writing this from the top of our building just outside Toronto, looking out over a beautiful skyline. And yes, that was a choice too. Not an especially profound one on the surface, but a reminder that choice shows up in both the small, everyday moments and the ones that shape the direction of our lives.
As we brought this issue together, one thread became unmistakably clear:
Choice is not about deciding.
It’s about recognizing that we always have agency, even when the path forward feels tangled or uncertain.
That distinction matters.
In coaching, we often meet people in moments where they feel stuck. Circumstances seem fixed. Options feel limited. The future looks unclear. And in those moments, it’s easy to believe that choice has disappeared.
But it hasn’t.
What’s actually missing is the awareness of it.
When someone reconnects with their own agency, something shifts. Possibility re-enters the conversation. New perspectives open up. Movement becomes available again. That realization can be transformative, not because it changes the external situation immediately, but because it changes how someone stands in relation to it.
Choice, then, isn’t just a tool we use. It’s a way of being.
It’s how we approach uncertainty.
It’s how we respond to challenge.
It’s how we engage with the world and with ourselves.
In the end, choice is not just what we do. It is how we live.
And for me, that’s not just an idea. It’s something I try to practice every day.
Thank you for being part of this community and for being readers of choice.
