I was recording a video outside today and it occurred to me that this was a perfect representation of chaos…starting with the weather. Just a few days before the official start of spring, the temperature suddenly dropped to -20°C with the wind chill. A couple of days ago, it was light-jacket weather. Now it’s freezing.
Talk about chaos.
Moments like this make you wonder when the swings will ever end. One day feels predictable, the next feels completely out of control. The weather is a simple example, but the truth is that chaos shows up everywhere…at work, in our businesses, in our relationships, and sometimes even in our own thinking.
When things feel uncertain, the instinct is often to grit your teeth and just push through. Buck up. Deal with it. Keep going no matter what.
But that’s not really the lesson.
In our upcoming issue, our authors offer a different approach to navigating chaos. Instead of forcing control over everything, they talk about getting grounded. About slowing down enough to make micro-decisions instead of trying to solve everything at once. About choosing the next small step rather than demanding a perfect big one.
And maybe most importantly, they remind us to breathe.
It sounds simple, but in chaotic moments, breathing is often the first thing we forget to do. When everything feels unpredictable, the body tightens, the mind races, and clarity disappears. Taking a breath doesn’t solve the chaos—but it gives us the space to respond to it instead of reacting to it.
Standing outside in freezing air right before spring is a good reminder that life doesn’t always follow the schedule we expect. Seasons shift, plans change, and certainty comes and goes. What we can control is how we meet those moments.
So when chaos shows up, try this:
Pause.
Breathe.
Make the next small decision.
That’s often enough to find your footing again.
And on that note… I’m heading back inside.
Happy spring, everybody.
